Jarell Rochelle is a visual movement artist, actor & inspirational speaker from Alief, Texas.  He obtained his B.F.A in Musical Theatre from Sam Houston State University & his M.F.A in dance and social justice from the University of Texas in Austin. Some of Jarell’s professional highlights include performing on So You Think You Can Dance, background dancing for Grammy-nominated recording artist, Angie Stone & choreographing for the Harlem GlobeTrotters halftime show.   While remaining a critically acclaimed movement artist in Houston; he performed alongside poet, Jerome Washington in a piece entitled “Boxes” as a featured performer/speaker at TEDx Youth in 2014; transitioning from a movement artist to a speaking artist. In 2019, Jarell made his speaking debut at TEDx Greenville & was awarded “Speaker of the night” at open mic night.  Captivated by Jarell’s speech on TEDx, an international recording artist with Sony Music label Dennis Lloyd decided he wanted to sample Jarell’s speech “How I moved From Fame to Purpose” for a snippet on his title track “Changes.”  The studio album “Some Days” went number one in ten countries and certified gold, introducing Jarell’s inspired speech to a global audience of 1.25 million listeners.  When Jarell is not performing, he is constantly refining his techniques, not only as a performing artist but as a renowned speaker, husband & father.

Jarell’s primary focus is reaching youth and young adults troubled by crippling fear associated with the authentic expression of self.  The pedagogy Xpression is a self-titled methodology using the six primary emotions in relationship to movement. as a physical practice (coined by Paul Eckman.)  Jarell uses these emotions as a medium to mitigate emotional ethnographical narratives through dance and various multidisciplinary art forms. Through his practice of mentorship, training programs & speaking engagements, he has helped many youths shake off the “created self” and return back to the truest version of themselves.
